It seems wholly appropriate that our annual trip to the Bristol Hi-Fi Show is named “Sound and Vision”, as it’s Bowie’s masterpiece, Low, that's been spending the most amount of time on the shop turntable.
“ I will sit right down, Waiting for the gift of sound and vision ”
The Bristol show is our chance to check out the latest, and greatest, hifi equipment. As well an opportunity to catch up with the manufacturers - getting an insight into the technology and engineering that’s goes into each new release. They are often bubbling with enthusiasm, which soon becomes contagious, once you hear the results.
Highlights from the show include:
The Rega Planar 3 turntable - a complete redesign of the RP3, which has been 2 years in the making.
The Naim Mu-so Qb - It's the smaller version of the Award-winning Mu-so. We know how meticulous Naim are when it comes to build & sound quality, and it really shows on this compact wireless speaker. We were also treated to Naim’s new range of classic power amplifiers, which included the DR (Discrete Regulator) technology, alongside the Focal Sopra loudspeakers.
In the PMC room, the monster PMC BB5 SEs really excited our shop manager, Ed:
“ The demo was pretty magical. As soon as we walked into the room, we immediately knew that these loudspeakers would sound amazing. We listened to Pink Floyd, along with some isolated guitar riffs from Jimmy Page - The soundstage was so huge and open, with such a natural sound, it really did feel like the band were in the room us.”
The speakers that really got our hearts racing though, were the B&W 802 D3, equipped with a diamond tweeter. These sound truly spectacular, and would definitely be in our ultimate hi-fi set-up.
We're looking forward to the 2017 show already!
