For local and national broadcasts R2’s DAB and FM tuner provides excellent performance and with DAB+ technology also built in, R2 can be used in countries where this updated format is now being used. DAB+ also ensures that R2 is ready for the implementation of this radio technology in the UK, which is now being used for new station releases. For international broadcasts, R2’s Internet tuner allows you to access stations and podcasts world-wide, so whether you’re into classical, rock or jazz, with R2’s search capability you will quickly find stations to suit your needs.
Voice controlled devices from the likes of Amazon and Google are interesting technologies, but deciding which may be right for you and which will stand the test of time can be daunting. This is a key reason why all our products incorporate Bluetooth and auxiliary inputs, so devices such as these can easily be connected and enjoyed with our products class leading sound. Also as this technology changes (which it is bound to) then it is easy for you to upgrade as required.
Programme, time and alarm status are shown with vivid clarity on R2’s Organic LED (OLED) display. The display retains its high contrast at any viewing angle and the display brightness can be adjusted to suit your requirements, when active and also in standby.
High Quality Bluetooth
The Ruark Audio R2 has high performance aptX Bluetooth built in so you can directly stream from compatible devices to R2 with CD quality sound. An increasing number of Smartphone’s and other devices have aptX technology built in, but with or without, sound quality over Bluetooth with R2 is remarkable.
Connect, Playback and Charge
Alongside wireless connectivity, R2 also has great direct connectivity featuring two switchable line inputs, a headphone output and a multi-purpose USB socket so you can conveniently charge your smartphone or playback music loaded onto a memory stick/portable hard drive in a variety of audio codec’s including WAV, WMA, AAC, FLAC and MP3.
Any bedroom looks and sounds better with R2 and with comprehensive programmable dual alarms you’ll be roused from your slumbers with beautiful sound exactly when you want from your desired radio station or Spotify playlist. R2 also features adjustable sleep and snooze timers so you can doze off and snooze in a similar fashion.
Elegant Control Solution
Products covered in buttons look confusing and lack sophistication so our trademark RotoDial controller sited atop R2 provides a refreshingly elegant solution. Our RotoDial controller also ensures whichever Ruark model you own you will intuitively know how to operate each one due to their similarity of control and operation.
Wireless Music Access
R2 allows you to wirelessly access music stored on computers and NAS drives connected to your home network. This makes the Ruark Audio R2 ideal if you like to download music or record and store your CDs on one central device. It supports a variety of popular audio codec’s including WAV, WMA, AAC, FLAC and MP3. Please note that audio streaming over a network requires a NAS drive or PC/Mac running DLNA certified software with sharing enabled.
R2 is carefully crafted from select materials which we know from our experience designing High-Fidelity loudspeakers, provide the best sound quality. The combination of natural and man-made materials also have the added benefit of making our products feel as good to touch as they are to see and hear.
Full Remote Control
Included with R2 is a compact remote, but for full wireless control we also have our own Apple and Android App available called Ruark LINK which you can download for free from the iOS and Android stores. With R2 connected to your wireless network and LINK you will have full control of R2 and will also be able to see what’s playing on the screen of your smart device, all from the comfort of your chair or anywhere within range of your wireless network.
Alone R2 is a superb music system, but with two or more you can create a multi-room system and play music in-sync all over your home. Unlike other multi-room systems, grouping can be performed directly on R2 with the display providing clear feedback or alternatively you can set-up and control with our Ruark LINK app. R2 will also wirelessly connect and work together with our new MRx and R7 Mk3 models.
About Ruark Audio
Formed in 1985 by Brian and Alan, they used their savings to rent a small unit on a private industrial estate in Rayleigh, Essex, as a workshop to develop and manufacture their first loudspeaker systems. Many hours are spent evolving the sound for which Ruark would ultimately become highly regarded by enthusiasts.
After 14 months development, Alan and Brian launch their first loudspeaker systems called Sabre and Broadsword. With beautiful cabinet work and advance drive unit technology, these systems are soon noticed by the Hi-Fi press and receive critical acclaim.
Ruark initially made speakers until 2004 when they moved in a new direction. With the audio market in turmoil, Alan decides that it would be a good idea to start looking at other avenues. With the growing popularity of DAB in the UK, Alan was looking for a radio for his own use. It appeared that whilst sound quality was important for hi-fi, in radios the sound was often very poor. Seeing a gap in the market a decision was made to start work on developing a high-quality digital radio.
In November 2006, Ruark launch our first tabletop radio to critical acclaim, with the Sunday Telegraph calling it ‘The Aston Martin of DAB radios’. It is decided that they will sell and market the R1 under a different brand-name (Vita Audio), in order to avoid confusion with their loudspeakers. In retrospect, this proves to be a decision that causes quite a bit of confusion with customers and dealers alike.
